Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The cod at Skippers Fish & Chips garners rave reviews for its light, flaky texture and crisp batter. Guests appreciate the generous portions, often wrapped in traditional paper for an authentic experience. The staff’s attentiveness and friendly demeanor make for a pleasant dining experience. Customers frequently mention the added touch of a lemon slice, enhancing the presentation and flavor. Many enjoy pairing their meals with curry sauce, a hit among those seeking a twist on the traditional chips. The availability of a children’s menu also ensures young diners are well catered for, with options like fish cakes and cod bites that keep them happy.

Most Disliked

Some diners have expressed their disappointment over occasionally longer waits during peak hours; however, most agree the fresh cooking makes it worth the wait. The menu's limited offerings, primarily focused on fish and chips with few variations, might not appeal to those looking for more diverse meal options. A handful of reviews note that while the atmosphere feels homey, it lacks some modern flair that younger diners might prefer. These factors don't deter the loyal customer base but may influence newcomers' perceptions.

Been coming here for a few years now grabbing a team lunch as a treat some Fridays and now I won’t be coming to Mitcham for work anymore, I’m going to miss this place for sure. This came recommended and thankfully have to agree, it’s a great Fish & Chip shop. Attentive, friendly and polite staff; and even if you telephone your order through, they will still wait to cook the fish fresh for you when you arrive. Honestly, this is not a bad thing so keep this in mind if you’re in a hurry, but the wait isn’t long and is well worth it. You can eat in with the typical traditional British/cafe interior, almost like an old skool Wimpy, looks very clean and well maintained. The menu is basic, solely for Fish & Chips with the usual extras like savoys, battered sausages, pies, curry sauces, burgers and kids and pensioners options. I ordered my usual of cod and chips, plus the added extra of a battered sausage with salt and vinegar. They always offer you a slice of lemon too, which is a nice touch. Decent sized portions and reasonably priced, wrapped in paper as opposed to the boxes. Should I ever come to Mitcham for whatever reason, I’ll be sure to keep myself hungry to grab a Skipper’s.

Great chippie! The staff are lovely and attentive. The food has a great price, and lovely touch for the fish to be accompanied with a lemon. Fantastic atmosphere, feels like a proper old school place.

Definitely would recommend this place. The food was piping hot and very fresh. I ate in and received my food very quickly. The chips were soft but crispy and the savaloy was perfect. Will make sure to come back.
